Before I get into the matchup, check out this cool poster for the fight by Boss Logic
Now, about the fight... This is something people are interested in, but the internet will hate on it as well (as it goes for most MVP-promoted events). Still, I don't mind it. These ladies are icons of the sport, having helped it grow, enjoyed their runs, and gone on to do other things. But fighting is what made them. Fighting is what put them on the map initially, so it's also nice to see that two women who helped grow the sport are facing each other in the sport that helped them find success. Carano was there first, then Rousey. Carano's reign ended when she faced Cris Cyborg, which is a true milestone event in MMA. If you want to read more about that, you can check out this piece my podcast co-host wrote in 2018 here. Cyborg went on to hold titles everywhere she fought, and still fights today, but that's for another post. This one is about looking at the fight and making my notes now, since we have no recent fights to draw from. They've both been away for a while. So here it goes...The tactical narrative of this event is defined by the following matchup from the main card:
Rousey is currently a -400 favorite. That makes sense, since she was the last active fighter between the two of them. I don't recall Carano's grappling prowess, but Rousey is an Olympic-level grappler, which is always something to note. As much as I'd like Carano to win, it's hard to pick against Rousey. She's the younger fighter, has fought more, and if any clinch happens, she'll likely win. Probably by armbar. Feel free to shoot me your prediction. If you want a notebook to make your picks, you can grab this one on the cheap. β‘Follow me on π: @Carbazelβ π My books: Bow and Arrow Mysteries (my fiction writing) π© Mixed Martial Answers on Substackβ π Fight Night Card Companion: PDFβ π₯ My YouTube channel: The Blogboard Jungleβ πΈ IG: @Carbeerzelβ |
