The podcast I co-host and produce has been up since 2017.

We’ve gone pretty steadily, with or without guests, since we started. There was always something going on, especially when Bellator MMA was the number two promotion next to the UFC.

They’re gone now, and there’s a noticeable deficit in MMA since they went away.

ONE Championship is circling the drain, the PFL is…where it is, and all attention seems to be on the UFC. The UFC is not MMA, although lately, because of their stranglehold on the sport, it’s looking that way.

Last weekend was Labor Day, and the UFC didn’t hold an event, so there was Craig Jones’ CJI 2, Misfits Boxing, and a BKFC event that had a weather delay.

It’s what MMA media classifies as a slow news week, because the UFC was off.

That’s kind of disturbing.

Unless you go all in on the UFC, which seems to be what many people are doing. Or, you can do the other thing and try to go all-in on everything else. It’s only a crisis if you view it that way.

My co-host and I have decided to record the podcast when we feel relevant events occur in the industry.

If it’s UFC news and big events, we’ll go.

If there are a lot of talking points to have after a huge boxing, MMA, or BKFC event, we’ll go.

What we won’t do is try to make every move the UFC does major news. Because plenty is going on outside of the UFC. Like this weekend’s Subversiv Fight Club #03 on Spectation Sports. It’s “Combat Jiu-Jitsu,” and I interviewed one of the competitors, MMA fighter and pro grappler Caleb Crump. Check it out here.

And, if you’re paying attention, the talent many people get rabid over in the UFC came from someplace else.
