AI Analysts for MMA

Picking fights ain't easy.

Even the most seasoned analysts of the sport aren't 100% correct all of the time. But everyone is using AI for something now, right?

Even the UFC.

So, I've been playing with it myself for a few events this year. When you do stuff like this, you need to watch a lot of fights, do a lot of research, and try to make your pick as close to correct as you can.

If you signed up for this list to get the Notion Fight Night Companion, I've given you some of the steps that I take when I do picks for the podcast, and even when I used to do the group picks for the various sites I have written for.

But it can be time-consuming, even for hobbyists and professionals.

So what do you do?

Enter AI

I know, it's everywhere and in your face.

Even when you don't want it to be, the one thing I keep seeing from people who do use it is the time it saves. We all want to save time so we have more time to do the things that matter, or are more fun.

But you can't let AI do it all for you, because the other thing I see is that it can make mistakes, or even worse...

...make things up.

So, how can you use AI for the fight game?

Well, I took a few courses on how to work with AI and figured out the correct way to prompt it, do proper research, and spit out information to help me make my picks.

I don't let it do my picks for me.

But I do use it to help me if I'm having trouble making picks.

So how do I do it?

Gems!

You've probably heard the term "AI Agent" when reading a lot about AI. Well, a "Gem" is the Google Gemini version of that.

So, I wrote a prompt to create an agent to spit out very detailed picks based on a lot of web research. It takes about 5-10 minutes to do and gives me detailed paragraphs and spreadsheets with fight odds to make a pick.

So, for this weekend's UFC Fight Night: Moicano vs. Duncan card, I want to share them with you to see how good it is. I won't share the full breakdown because it's a lot of information and data pulled from the web.

I'll share the picks it gave me, and we'll follow up on how well it did afterward.

Here are the AI picks. Feel free to add them to your own Notion template:

Let's see how smart the machines are!
