The UFC is in Newark this weekend. I haven't been to the Prudential Center since 2016, when Anthony "Rumble" Johnson KO'd Ryan Bader in the main event. The UFC was on FOX back then. It was a lot more fun, and Newark may have been a little safer back then, too. If you listened to this week's Coast-2-Coast Combat Hour, I made a joke about it. But you're not subscribed to this for jokes. You're subscribed to this for fights, so let's talk about one that might not be talked about enough. At least for a local boy like me... Jim Miller vs. Jared GordonMiller's the hometown guy from Jersey, but Gordon's from over the bridge in NYC. It's not a rivalry, but it's a fun fight with two vets, who should be higher on the card in the opinion of my podcast co-host. I can't help but agree with him. So, let's take a look at this fight. Miller's got the homefield advantage, but he is the oldest fighter on this card. That hurts me to say, too, as an old man (I'm older than Miller), but this is a sport where the young eat the old. Although Cub Swanson was able to walk away with a win in his retirement fight, Miller hasn't dropped any retirement talk that I've seen. Unless I missed it. I think Miller will be a threat early and could pull off a win if he can hurt Gordon within the first two rounds, but Gordon is not someone who gets hurt easily. It's quite the opposite if you've watched Gordon's career. The chance is there for Miller, but they're close enough to New York that if Gordon wins, we can't be mad. If you want to see the other picks on the card, check out the podcast. Unless you want the TLDR, which you can get right here. Enjoy the fights! PSHappy Mother's Day!
