I F'd up!

My bad.

I really thought Reinier de Ridder was going to take it to the judges last weekend.

But, but now we have a new note on Reinier de Ridder to add to our notes.

He will quit if his opponent can survive his onslaught and turn the tables. This is not to knock the fighter or his effort, but twice is a pattern, and unfortunately, this is not the first time I've seen de Ridder look like he was going to quit and did.

When I wrote about him for MyMMANews, I highlighted his accomplishments I did list his two losses.

I think it's admirable for a fighter to face someone who beat them soundly the first time, and go into a rematch knowing their chances are slim. He did that against Anatoly Malykhin, but the way he lost the second time was the way he lost to Brendan Allen in Vancouver.

So make note 📝

De Ridder, if over confident and the tides turn, will quit or his corner will quit for him.

The signs were there at the end of rounds three and four. Granted, his coach took the blame since he threw in the towel, but still...

... twice is a pattern.

So now, in our notes for de Ridder, we can add:

Over confidence + tougher than expected opponent = quitting after 3 rounds

But I don't want to kick a fighter when he's down.

As combat sports grow, we have to remember these athletes are human, and this sport is rough.

Hell, I quit a round last weekend in my own training. So, I won't be too hard on him, but I will pay more attention to his attitude approaching fights.

Also, that grapplers who are better versed in MMA grappling and prioritize top positioning like Malykhin and Allen, will likely get the better of him. Especially when the rounds go on and sweat is a factor.

So if you did take that +350 action, like I did — at least we lost together.
